Life drawing in Amsterdam is a simple way to practise drawing and meet creative people. You do not need to be good at drawing to join.
Most sessions welcome beginners. A model holds a pose while you draw. Some poses last one minute; others last longer. The host explains the rules before you start.
What to bring
- a sketchbook or drawing pad
- pencils and an eraser
- a sharpener
- water and a light layer
What happens at a first session
Arrive early, choose a seat, and listen to the host. Start with loose lines. Do not worry about making a perfect picture. The goal is to look, try, and learn.
Simple manners
- Keep voices low while the model is posing.
- Never take a photo unless the host says it is allowed.
- Respect the model and other people in the room.
How to meet people
Say hello during the break. Ask what someone likes to draw or whether they come often. Going to the same session each week helps people remember you.
How to choose a session
Check whether it is drop-in or a course, how long it lasts, and what materials are allowed. Choose a place that feels calm and easy to reach.
